The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) is Ireland and the UK’s leading professional body for those involved in the management and development of people.  There are over 116,000 members throughout Ireland and the UK.  Membership of the CIPD is widely accepted by employers as a requirement of practice as it demonstrates a commitment to high standards and professionalism and to continuing professional development. CIPD Ireland is enjoying phenomenal growth, from 400 members at its inception to 5,000 members today.

The Institute was awarded Chartered Status in July 2000 in recognition of its role in promoting “the art and science of the management and development of people for the public benefit”. CIPD’s programmes of learning and competency accreditation are internationally recognised and lead to a highly valued professional qualification.

The Western Branch of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development is made up of members from Galway and Mayo.


The Branch aims to :

1.Advance continuously the management and development of people to the benefit of individuals, employers and the community at large.

2.To be the professional body for those specialising in advancing the management and the development of people, recognised as the leading authority and influence in this field.



CIPD Membership Upgrading Clinics

Full members of CIPD are more likely to be successful when applying for advertised positions than their graduate counterparts. – You can be successful too!

If you are a Graduate member of the CIPD, you may be eligible for an upgrade to full membership status or if you are already a full member, then you may be eligible for an upgrade to Fellowship status.  Upgrading can be reached by satisfying the following criteria and by embarking on a programme of Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

Member (MCIPD) you must be a Graduate member and be able to demonstrate three years’ relevant experience at management level, two of which must have been in a specific personnel and development role.

Fellow (FCIPD) you must be Member (MCIPD) and be able to demonstrate ten years’ relevant experience at management level, seven of which must have been in a specific personnel and development role.  Current and most recent roles(for at least three years) must be at a strategic management level, confirming a career progression through the specific period.

Companion (CCIPD) is gained by invitation only.  It is awarded in recognition of a significant contribution to the profession or Institute.

Upgrading Fee:  The fee for upgrading to Member or Fellow of the CIPD is £60 stg The fee is non-refundable and is payable on submission of your upgrade application.
